Cars

This is insane.

The night before yesterday, Ted and I were going through the WITC parking lot, and my transmission died.  We left the car there, and walked 22 blocks home at 11:45 at night.

Obviously, I couldn’t drive to school, so I was going to catch a ride with Ted this morning. When we tried to leave at 7:30, Ted’s car wouldn’t start. He had left the dome light on the night before. So Ted and I walked the 24 blocks to school, in fifteen degree below zero morning air. Ted had taken a shower before we left, and by the time we got to school, his hair was frozen white.

Anyway, my car was still stranded in the WITC parking lot, and I had arranged for it to be towed today after school. I asked Ted if I could use his car to unload all the stuff from my car, so after lunch, Ryan and I took his car back to my house to try to jump Ted’s car. After pushing it out of the alley, we spent 25 minutes trying to jump it, to no avail. Ryan offered to let me put all my stuff in his car, so when we got back to WITC, he pulled his car right up behind mine.

It was sticking out into the isle, so he left his hazards on so it wouldn’t be hit.  You can probably guess what happened next. Twenty-five minutes later, he tried to start it.  Dead battery. We ended up pushing my car up next to his, and using my dead car to jumpstart his car.

Once we got his car running, Ryan decided to drive it around the school a few times to recharge the batter.  The rest of us went back inside to wait.

Fifteen minutes later, Ryan still hadn’t returned.  We assumed the worst, and were worried that his car had died again a few blocks from school.  A few minutes later, Ryan came inside, minorly incoherant.  It turns out that as he was driving throug the school parking lot, someone backed into him.

As soon as he got hit, Ryan, of course, immediately shut off his car and got out to talk to the guy who ran into him (note: The guy who hit him was a Bretting. They own a lot of Ashland. Remember this name).  Ryan, in his excitement, left his headlights on.  Fifteen minutes later, his batter was dead, again.

Finally, eventually, we got back home.  Ted’s ex-girlfriend Becky came over with her car to try to jump Ted’s car again.  After having no success, she had to leave for work.  A few minutes ago, she called Ted, telling him that she had been out at the Brettings factory (Brettings!), where her dad worked. She was driving out of the Brettings parking lot, and she heard an explosion.  She looked over, and a van had literally exploded. She said the flames were twenty-feet tall. Before long, there were five firetrucks on the scene. Even so, the car next to it caught fire also.  Keep an eye on your car.
