Campaignin’ for some Changin’
“Hello, my name is Justus, and I’m volunteering for Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change here in Ashland. Could I take a minute of your time?”
Along with Graham and Kellan, I volunteered at our local Obama campaign office today, soliciting phone calls.
I made somewhere in the neighborhood of sixty phone calls over the course of a couple hours. The vast majority of the calls were either no answer or refused (hangups, in most cases). Out of the people who were actually willing to talk to me, only four said they supported Obama, versus two or three for McCain.
I only talked to two people who were actually willing to listen to me talk about Obama’s policies on various matters. Out of those two, one of them chose not to say who they supported, and the other said they were leaning towards McCain. By the end of the conversation, I got each of them to agree to take a look at barackobama.com.
Althoug the overall results weren’t too encouraging, I enjoyed being involved, and plan to do more of it again soon. If your phone rings, be nice.
